Tips for a Successful 134th Continental Congress – Whether You’re Attending or Not
Download the latest free app to your phone – on Apple store or Google Play at “DAR Continental Congress” You can load your events/activities to personalize, or just stay informed.
On the DAR.org Website go to the members only section, sign in (State, Chapter Name, National Number) go to Continental Congress tab – then click on “Insiders Guide” to see numerous buttons for the schedule and many other areas of interest. This is a Go To page.
Under the Continental Congress tab, click on “Livestream” and you can see the schedule of events which you can, as it says, Livestream Wednesday’s Opening Night Festivities (a true showstopper not to be missed), Thursday’s Education Night which includes the Outstanding Junior Winner Awards – Note, our very own Rebecca Martinsen of Ferro Monte Chapter – is a National Finalist! Wish her luck! And also tune in to Saturday’s livestream of National Defense Night. All Livestreams begin at 7 pm.
From the “Insiders Guide” page you can also click the button for Congress Facebook, Congress Instagram and go to the Blog to stay current. You can also click the button for the daily Congress Herald for articles and pictures.
For those attending Congress remember that there is a daily virtual Trivia Scavenger Hunt from midnight to midnight Monday through Saturday which is open to all and FREE!
On Wednesday June 25 there are 2 opportunities to view the Period Room Showcase: Part I 10-12 noon, and Part II 2-4 pm, Part II includes the not to be missed New Jersey Room, with our own Chair Cheryl Knabe in attendance.
On Thursday morning attendees can go to the Morning Business Session (9 to 12 Noon) and those pre-registered will attend the New Jersey Girls Bus trip at noon. That evening we can cheer on our Outstanding Junior Rebecca Martinsen as we celebrate Education Awards Night.
During Friday’s Morning Business Session we will stand as our State Regent, Diane Waugh Oliver, delivers her Regent’s Report, a certain highlight of Congress, when she will recap hers and our many achievements over the last 3 years. Friday evening at the JW Marriott all members will be treated to Sparkle in Service, a free event and opportunity to sparkle and mingle.
Saturday will include Virtual Voting 6 am to 10 am and onsite voting 8 am to 10 am. Remember that all NJ members in attendance should assemble before 6:30 pm for Official Pictures on the 18th Street Stairs, followed by National Defense Night.
Finally, on Sunday, June 29, following the Memorial Service 9 to 10 am, the installation of new officers will take place beginning at 10:30 am. Our very own State Regent Elect Lynda Jurczak will be installed and be sashed by Honorary State Regent Diane Oliver as attended by incoming State Vice Regent Catherine Medich. Another not to be missed event.
Last but not least, members not attending should remember not only to livestream, check the daily Congress Herald, Instagram and Facebook, but to log on to the NJDAR Facebook page, Instagram and also check YouTube as kind daughters may also record (hint – hint) some of the highlighted activities. Also feel free to text your friends who may be attending to get the latest on the spot news! No matter your circumstances, be assured that all NJDAR sisters will be in our hearts at the 134th Congress.
